Fortress M40A3 Stock Review - TheBauer
Ive wrote up myself another review of the 'fortress m40a3 stock' if your thinking about buying one, i really suggest you read this review before parting with your money.
Apon opening the box, I was greated with a nicely weighted stock, it seemed very thick and strong how ever a closer look to the right hand side there was a massive crack down the side. The box however had no sign of damage other than the usual 'dog eared' corners so I was unable to work out how this happened. So I contacted WGC and sent it back, for a refund as Fire-Support.co.uk in the UK were selling these for the same price it costed me to get one from HK shipped to me, minus customs, (HK price was bout £250 incl customs, and FS are £220) so I thought id buy one from Fire-Support and use the refund money from WGC to pay for that, Only the refund never came... oh well.
So, whilst im waiting on things im browsing the forums, now these stocks are a little more out there and more people have them and skirmishing with them I was curious to see how they were getting on. Surprisingly a large amount of players have mentioned the exact same crackage in their stocks as I had in mine, theirs had also either come like that, or knocked slightly and snapped in that same place. I phoned up Fire-Support and spoke to John, he said hes had a few sent back which have had the exact same problem and as such are trying to 'fix' the poor quality of the fortress stock by using a metal mesh and some epoxy to help strengthen both sides of the stock around the trigger;
![]() ![]() as you can see above, Fire-Support are trying to help the end user with the issue at hand.
Anyhow, other than the major critical flaw that some of these stocks seem to have these are my concerns with a stock that costs the same if not more than the base rifle itself:
[] Mould lines and blurs, my first model came with some nasty mould blurs around the trigger guard and did not look very good. [] Seam Line, there is a very clear seam line running around the entire stock [] Butt Pad, this is hard plastic, not rubber like most other rifle stocks, not so much a problem with long sleeved shirts, but when wearing short sleeved tops, the hard rigid plastic has sharp edge and is not comfortable against bare skin. [] Cheek piece screw holes, these gold screw holds strip with the slightest tightening, morning of my first skirmish I adjust my cheek piece and tighten only for the gold nuts to thread, these will need to be glued into place so you can use your cheek piece. [] The screws they supply in the pack are to long, I ended up using the front bolt from the original VSR on the front, and the trigger guard screw on the rear, and using just one of their screws in the middle, what's the point in supplying the 3 screws if only one fits. [] Structurally weak point where the bolt handle sits, as mentioned above, and numerous reports on the forums of these snapping in said place. [] After a while of skirmishing the front bolt that fixes the barrel to the stock works loose, this causes the mags not to sit high enough and thus not feed, how ever you cannot tighten the bolt up to much or the mag catch gets stuck when you press it in.

You would think with the money that you spend you would not have to deal with even half of the above problems.
I think if you spend a little time working on the flaws of this stock, that it could be worth it, I know that I like mine, but I might be forcing myself to like it due to all the aggravation of actually getting one. I shouldnt have the problem of the snapping due to using milliput to fill in the right hand side as I use a left hand bolt, so the milliput will of helped strengthen the stock.
For those wanting sling mounts, ebaybanned do a copy of the required ones @ £7.17 each (youll need 2); http://ebaybanned.com/product_info.php?products_id=1285
